It began with a fizzle, not a bang.
That's how it happens – just a patient ember waiting to ignite the fuse.
Our saga starts in Edmonton, Canada. A passionate music student named Sam Sobota was studying tirelessly, determined to become a concert tubist. Immersed in her work at the University of Alberta, Sam was unaware of the impending adventures that lay ahead.
A local engineering firm was seeking young entrepreneurs; their hope was to create a sister company that would design and manufacture SKAA™ Wireless audio solutions. This firm, originally interested in business and engineering graduates, was impressed with Sam's dedication to music and her artistic flare. Although the opportunity was bold new territory, it was not overlooked. Sam left her studies and the dream of symphonic grandeur to found Freq Industries, a unique company with a penchant for aural victory.
Within two short months, the business was incorporated and fully independent. Freq began to flare with personality, commissioning legendary product art and the creation of its mascot, Darwin. With the stage set to take over the world, Sam began to establish overseas operations in China. It was time to find the perfect partner in crime...
Enter Lee - the newly appointed V.P. Operations. Lee's background in machining affords him a passion for process, a flair for the practical, and the necessary hustle to get things done. New to the world of business, he boldly gave up his 9-5 for the opportunity to oversee Freq productions in Shenzhen, China.
Over the next few months, the Freq team worked tirelessly to develop two concepts; our 11s (portable wireless speakers) and Numbskull (prototyped wireless headphones). These products were showcased at CES Las Vegas 2010. With no booth and a shoestring budget, the team set out on foot to tackle the biggest consumer electronics show in the world. Here, our founders gained a perspective and invaluable feedback from trusted reviewers and industry gurus.
